I composed this short piece simply as an exercise at a different style. A set of ostinatos serve as a background accompaniment. The foreground melody is played by English horn, then clarinet and violas. Then a French horn plays a melody, soon accompanied by a trumpet. Then a conversation plays a melody back and forth between the bassoon doubling bass clarinet in octaves, and flute. Finally, a mysterious set of rolls on the timpani and gong, with harp arpeggios give the piece a semi-threatening undertone. All of the ostinatos use patterns developed (and modified) from “The Orchestra, Complete”, and the wind instruments are from “Infinite Brass” and “Infinite Woodwinds”. Enjoy!
