This week I joined an A&R music placement service called “TAXI”. The reason I did this, is that after a significant sign-up fee, submissions only cost $5 for a potential follow-on to a production library or placement. There are two big advantages to using this service rather than other similar services. First, their postings are very specific. They give a lot of information and examples of the type of styles of music they are interested in. Second, each submission is professionally critiqued, in the context of the submission request. We will see how it goes! …
My first submission is a marching band instrumental cue. I have used a number of East-West instrument samples, all percussion. Most of the percussion instruments are non-tonal, while the only two tonal instruments are marimba and chimes. The melodies played by these tonal instruments are rather minimal. Most of the interest in this piece is rhythmic, not melodic–and there are no harmonies at all.
