I was recently asked to try my hand composing a background score for an introductory portion of an upcoming film titled “High Eagle”. The film is a documentary about Jerry Elliot, a physicist, and one of the first Native Americans to work for NASA. One of his most visible contributions was the engineering he performed on the retrofire rockets which saved the lives of the crew of the Apollo 13 mission.
So, after a few seconds of English horn, this score begins and ends with the use of a First Nations Cedar Flute. The middle portion is an upbeat orchestral strings ostinato with a meandering melody played by the piano. This is a fun little piece!
